THIGH VOLTAGE, a first of its kind all female tribute to the one and only AC/DC, invaded the Brooklyn Bowl in Las Vegas on January 27th 2018. This free show had everything a fan could want on the evening from some great AC/DC classics from the early days of Bon Scott to the Brian Johnson era, all put on by some of the best female rockers in the Las Vegas area.
When you think of the top female rockers in the Las Vegas area, two names are always at or near the top of any list and that is guitarist Leona X and vocalist Cian Coey. This pairing seems like a natural fit for any project, but an AC/DC tibute may have just been the perfect pairing for these two. Cian did a yeomen’s job with the early Bon Scott look and sound and morphed into the Brian Johnson look and sound mid-set. Leona X was incredible in the way she was able to replicate all of the mannerisms of Angus Young from the high stepping, down to the rolling around on the ground while hitting every note.
What makes this band complete is that it is not just about these two female powerhouses. Claudy Zee on bass and Eva Karczewska on rhythm guitar not only have the looks, but the chops to take this band to the next level. Ryan Gillan on drums is the only male in the line-up. He may have the best seat in the house to watch this show, but his skills as a drummer make you forget that there is one position in this all female tribute act that is not female!
As mentioned before, there were certain things in this show that just seemed to make it so much more authentic than some of the many other AC/DC tribute acts. The show seemed to span the entire catalogue ranging early in the set from Bon Scott classics like “Highway to Hell”, “Touch too Much” and “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap” to ending with hits from the Brian Johnson era like “Hell’s Bells”, “Back in Black” and “For Those About to Rock”. The show felt more like the history of AC/DC than just another tribute.
In the end, at first glance this may seem like just another gimmick, a bunch of really pretty girl rockers putting on an AC/DC tribute, but nothing could be further from the truth. Once you witness this spectacular event, there is no denying that the talent and ability of these girls is what carries the show, and not just the looks. This may be Las Vegas’ premier AC/DC tribute for now, but I would not at all be surprised to see this act break out and give the rest of the nation a taste of THIGH VOLTAGE !
