Machine Head brought a night of prog metal to the House of Blues, touring in liu of the release of their 9th album Catharsis released in January 2018 on Nuclear Blast Records. The album brought mixed reviews from the metal press, but the consensus in Las Vegas was Catharsis is just that.
Catharsis may be a little more melodic than the last few releases, taking us back to an earlier MH groove, but deep into the third decade of music, Robb Flynn is still defiant and ferocious. “We are carving our own path here, playing by our own rules, and as an artist, it’s the best feeling in the world,” Flynn said when announcing the tour.*
An Evening With Machine Head show included songs from all eras in the lengthly set, with nods to old and new, and included title "Catharsis" track and "Volatile" single from the Catharsis release. The House of Blues was packed, and the fans stayed until the last note of a near three hour show until finally making a sweaty, bruised mass exit in to the night.
