This was a night we have been waiting for! We have heard nothing but good about AMERAKIN OVERDOSE, and wanted to see for ourself if this band can deliver!
But first opening the show was the band DRAUGR, a relatively newer Vegas band might be the hardest, heaviest band playing the local club circuit. This is extreme metal at it’s best, With Branden Phoenix on Vocals, Nox Aragon on Guitar, Rigo Mortis on Drums and Cyanide on Bass, they hit you with a hardcore punch. Next up it was DIRT HALO, another hard / metal band based in Vegas, and a great band with a bright future.
TYRANTS BY NIGHT also hail from Las Vegas, there was definitely local support showing up tonight for the home town bands. This is a great band we have seen out several times recently, solid tight and hard and heavy. Tryants are a force to be reckoned with on the local scene.
Now it was time for headliners AMERAKIN OVERDOSE to take the stage, and as a photographer I love horror themed bands and this is one of the few I had never seen, and they did not disappoint! Amerakin Overdose hail from Portland Oregon and formed back in 2010, and he band has a solid stage show complete with their own lighting and lots of smoke. Their sound is aggressive yet melodic, and what is typical with bands in this genre is they use two vocalists. Cody is the lead vocals and Pito is the backing vocals, ( along with The Human on Guitar/Keys/Synths, Cameron on Bass and Brick on Drums) and these two frontmen wear masks that would give you nightmares if you came across them on the street.
It was still over 100 degrees at show time and Cody kept stating how hot it was and would understandably take his mask off for a couple of songs then put it back on. The crowd was small on this Sunday night, partly due to the excessive heat, but the fans that braved the temps really seemed to be into this band and did their best to show some appreciation. If you like -Mushroomhead, Slipknot, Motogrator then you will LOVE this band as it is up their in the upper ranks of horror themed bands. Catch this band when it comes to a city near you, they are out on tour with dates through early August, and you can check the cities on their website here. Amerakin Overdose will be on my watch list hoping they come back to Vegas….
