The Cannery Hotel and Casino on the North side of town has been the place to go to lately in Las Vegas for some good double bills of 1980’s rock, and June 7th, 2018 was once again a great example when SLAUGHTER and GREAT WHITE took the stage at The Club . For those who don’t know, SLAUGHTER and GREAT WHITE have been out on the road as a double bill for seven years now, touring almost constantly. The two have made Las Vegas a regular stop, appearing in various venues yearly throughout the seven years.
Although they may appear here regularly, SLAUGHTER had a few new twists in the show on this night. For one, it just so happened to be Vocalist Mark Slaughter's birthday. Guitarist Jeff Blando brought out a cake and led the crowd in the singing of "Happy Birthday to Mark!" Mark along with Blando and bassist Dana Strum and flamboyant drummer Zoltan Chaney played many of their 80's favorites including "Up All Night" and Burnin' Bridges" and "Mad About You", before a touching moment when Mark dedicated “Fly to the Angels" to recently deceased Las Vegas native Vinnie Paul.
GREAT WHITE has been around Las Vegas enough now for most rock fans to be familiar with vocalist Terry Ilous who has been in tow since 2012, and Terry fit extremely well with the three original members Mark Kendall, Michael Lardie and Audie Desbrow the last 5 years as the band has continued to tour. Great White played a solid set of solid rock classics with "Save Your Love", "Face the Day", and even if you are only a casual fan, “Rock Me” and “Once Bitten, Twice Shy" compel you to break out your vocal skills and sing along.
*As of SMM press time, guitarist Mark Kendall announced that Ilous "has been released to join his other projects", and Nashville songwriter and artist Mitch Malloy will be vocalist replacing Ilous as the band moved ahead in 2018.
Thank you to the Cannery staff for bringing us all the great rock shows this summer!
