Nineties goth rockers ORGY brought their “Bring Your Army” tour to downtown Las Vegas and made a stop at the Beauty Bar, with support from NYC's Brand of Julez and a great young metal band from Texas called The Crowned, who kicked off the show.
The Crowned is a really great hard rocking metal band led by vocalist and drummer Marc Coronado. We got a chance to talk with Coronado before the show and he seems to be a very sincere person, with a interesting side story - Coronado donated a kidney to a complete stranger, after he heard his roommate talking about his friend who needed a kidney. Without hesitation he said he would donate one of his. You don’t find many people who would actually risk their own life to save a stranger's. In addition to Coronado, the band line up is Shane Ellis on guitar, Eric Salinas on guitar, Lazar Blackfire on guitar, and Johnny Damien on bass. The Crowned were very entertaining and in your face metal, and are touring in support of their newest cd titled “Apparition” out on Pavement Records. Check out their website for more info HERE .
Next was the return of Brand Of Julez with brothers Julez (vocals and guitar) and Brandon Zamora (vocals and bass), along with Nick Kashmanian on guitar and the recent addition of Jeremy Frank on drums. once again this a another great young metal band who is on the heavier side, and cites influences that include STP, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains, and they paid tribute to AIC with a killer version of "We Die Young". These brothers started at the ages of 13 & 16, and are quickly rising through the metal ranks with a debut album out now called Forward. The album had some impressive behind the scenes help, engineered by Joey Z (Life of Agony), mixed by Mike Ferretti at Architekt Music (Sevendust), and mastering by Andy Van Dette at Engine Room Audio (Sevendust, Muse, Rush). Headlning the night was ORGY, a alt industrial gothmetal band formed way back in the early 90’s, maybe best known for their cover of New Order's "Blue Monday". Lead singer and only original member Jay Gordon took the stage with his usual strange face paint, and moved back and forth non stop - he is relentless onstage, racing across the stage and powering through their set at the Beauty Bar's outdoor stage. Joining Gordon on this tour was guitarist Carlton Bost, Nic Speck on bass, Ilia Yordanov on guitar and Ryan Browne on drums. Near the end of the set the band played my fav song of theirs, "Opticon", and they closed out their set with all the members of the two opening bands joining them onstage for a rousing finale and their version of "Blue Monday". Orgy has a sound very much their own, and always a fun band to see. All three bands put on a great show and looked like the really enjoyed the night, as did we.
