Jane's Addiction crept onto the darkened stage at the beautiful new BleauLive Theater at the Fontainebleau Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas for the premier night of the 2024 US tour, to 1986's version of "Kettle Whistle", an eclectic slow and building intro to a show that would bring together all original members for a historic reunion and stunning night. The set featured cuts from decades of music from the band, while creating a intimate, inclusive evening that really drew in the fans, and made everyone feel like they were a part of something memorable.
The tour is a co-headlining effort with influential goth pop trio Love and Rockets, who reunited in 2023 to tour after over a decade apart. Vocalist Daniel Ash had said the initial 2023 dates would be his last, so I was ecstatic when Ash took the stage, along with Kevin Haskins and David J, and I got to see the original lineup again for this 2024 tour. Love and Rockets sauntered onto the stage and opened with the moody "The Light" and quickly picked up the pace with "Kundalini Express" that got the crowd on it's feet. The set was all retro Love and Rockets, including the iconic first single "Ball of Confusion", and the massive hit "So Alive". It was a euphoric return for the band and an incredible show, a perfect companion for Jane's to follow.
Jane's started the set mellow with "Kettle", but quickly raised the tempo with the powerful "Whores" and into "Pigs in Zen". It has been over a decade since the four (Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, Eric Avery and Steven Perkins) have performed together prior to this tour, and the electricity and vibe in the room was intense, it felt as if the band was full circle to a long career. The inclusion of Eric Avery on this lineup really solidified the OG sound, and the bass lead into "Summertime Rolls", "Up the Beach"... just pure heart and soul. Perry rambled and talked to the fans between songs as always, creating a closeness and stripped down feel, and the connection in the room was palpable as the crowd sang and danced along. Navarro on stage after a lengthy hiatus was fantastic to see, and the climatic "Ocean Side" showed he's still as intense as ever. There was really a depth to the show that hit differently, once again Jane's was real magic.
The set included new music as well, the band recently released single "Imminent Redemption", the first music from the original line up in 34 years. Rumors of a new album are out there, it would be the first in three decades with the original cast.
The tour continues through September, and you can check out tour dates and links to tickets HERE
