Jerry Cantrell is out on the road in support of his new cd titled I WANT BLOOD, and is hitting 26 cities on this tour - we were lucky enough to get them in Vegas at the House of Blues on this run, along with support from FILTER.
Opening up the show was FILTER - the last time I saw Filter I was less than impressed, the sound was a bit off, lighting was bad and overall the band in my eyes was not true to form. But I can honestly say for this show, the FILTER that I love was in TOP form - Richard Patrick’s vocals were fantastic, opening with “You Walk Away” followed by “The Drowning” (from their most recent album The Algorithm), and the band was absolutely killing it.
Patrick pumped up the energy, asking everyone in the balcony to stand up, and they launched into “Trip Like I Do”, and the whole energy of the crowd surged and everyone was on their feet. But the song that really won the crowd over was “Take A Picture”, and had the crowd singing with phones held high trying to capture every minute of this classic song. Filter finished strong with “Welcome to the Fold" and the hit "Hey Man Nice Shot”. A really solid set and start to the night. Catch up on everything with Filter, order The Algorithm and more HERE.
What a thrill to see a legend like JERRY CANTRELL live! I have never seen Cantrell on a solo tour, so I was very excited to catch this show and the touring band. Cantrell has a new album out, the tour namesake I Want Blood (Oct 2024) that is a return to a more metal sound, sludgy riffs and harmonizing melodies, closer to the AIC vibe than his last solo record with a more country-esque vibe, and the show reflected sound.
Cantrell led off with the punch of "Psychotic Break", and moved straight into an AIC classic “Them Bones”, before a glimpse of the new heavier record with "Vilified". The new material is definitely heavy, and the set really showcased the bulk of the album, but still gave hearty nods to early AIC with “Man in the Box”, and “Would”, which sounded incredible and you could feel the energy off the crowd all the way in the back.
Jerry introduced the band, which included vocalist Greg Puciato, Roy Mayorga on drums, Zach Throne on guitars and Eliot Lorango on bass, and one of the biggest things that stood out for me was how incredible the harmonies between the group. Melody and harmony has always been a binding force in AIC and Cantrell's solo work, and the vocals of this line up really shone, and Cantrell's own guitar playing and his vocals are one of a kind. I can truthfully say that I loved each and every song on the new CD, and loved the heaviness and metal tone.
