It was a sea of SLAYER tees and fans of all ages, coming out to House of Blues in Las Vegas to see a new incarnation of metal history in the making - a new supergroup put together by Slayer founding member KERRY KING, showcasing a solo album that has been his in the making since 2020-ish. It was a seemingly long wait for the fans, but the 2024 release From Hell I Rise lived up to the hype, and the band lineup was otherworldly - in addition to Slayer alumni Paul Bostaph on drums, the group featured Death Angel’s powerhouse Mark Osegueda on vocals, Kyle Sanders from Hellyeah on bass, and Phil Demmel of Vio-Lence/Machinehead on guitar.

From Hell I Rise was released in May of 2024, and King took his band out on tour for a run in Europe, a few festival dates, and a support stint with the Ashes of Leviathan tour, but this first US headlining tour really set the stage for the band to reign supreme. And reign they did. Bringing along Municipal Waste and Alien Weaponry, the tour was a power packed screaming metal lineup and a lot of fun too, it was a hellacious finale show on this first headlining leg for King.
Alien Weaponry opened the night, a New Zealand band that is unique in their cultural sound and look. The band will release "their heaviest record", Te Rā, on March 28, 2025 via Napalm Records, and their short but powerfully visual set gave us a hint with new single "Mau Moko" from the upcoming release. Check out more on this rising band HERE.
Municipal Waste was special guest for the tour, and they hit the stage all thrashy fun, the party started hard and fast and from then on in it never let up. Tony Foresta and MW came speeding out the gate with "Garbage Stomp", and then an even speedier "Sadistic Magician", and the mosh pit blurred.
The band's most recent release, Electrified Brain, is out on Nuclear Blast Records, and several cuts made the lengthy set, that covered the expected classic MW faves as well. MW is always so much damn fun, and the show (of course) culminated in 'fucking you up' to the sound of "Born to Party", as the crowd screamed along. Kerry King and band pummeled the fans out the gate with "Where I Reign" from the new album, and the floor started to spin and the bodies started to fly. The first half of the set was a solid wall of cuts from the new record, really showcasing King's writing work and dedication to this project, as well as his band's musical tenure and skill. This really is a supergroup, and the resounding wall of sound was ferocious and impressive from all. Mark Osegueda's vocals really blew off the roof, and Demmel on guitar was a real compliment to King's style and prowess. Bostaph on drums sealed the Slayer backline sound along with Sanders 'relentless' pummeling of his bass.
The show featured all songs from the new record, but also some real Slayer treats - "Relentless" and "Disciple" mid-set gave the fans their needed fix, and we had a couple of Iron Maiden cover surprises with "Purgatory" and "Killer", a seeming nod to the passing of legendary Maiden vocalist Paul Di'Anno late last year. The show was a lengthy hour and a half, and culminated in yet more Slayer classics "Raining Blood" and "Black Magic", before a hearty "From Hell I Rise" namesake to end the show in a swell of cheers and screaming fans.
This North American leg is over, but the Kerry King will be heading to Europe in May. Get the new record, it will blow your bloody head off. More on the tour, merch, and order the album HERE.
