It’s been 10 years since I have seen KILL DEVIL HILL, and I made sure to put this on my calendar when it was announced they would play at Count’s Vamp’d on September 22 in Las Vegas.
Last time I saw Kill Devil Hill, Rex Brown of Pantera and Vinny Appice were in the band. The band has a new lineup, but did not miss a beat and once again proved they are a metal force to be reckoned with.
Kicking off the night was locals DINNER MUSIC for the GODS, an all instrumental band that has a rock fusion sound. Dinner Music is a great band and the only instrumental rock band playing Vegas that I have seen. They play at Vamp’d regularly, and it is a perfect venue to catch this unique band.
KILL DEVIL HILL is a band with some impressive members - on vocals you have DEWEY BRAGG, who I just love as a singer. On bass guitar is former Five Finger Death Punch bassist MATT SNELL, on lead guitar the amazing MARK ZAVON (who just killed it on this show) and on drums it's usually JOHNNY KELLY from Type O Negative, but this night Johnny was over at the Virgin Theater playing with Danzig. Unfortunately I don’t know who was on drums - but the guy sounded amazing and did a great job!
KDH are touring in support of their now CD SEAS of OBLIVION, and their set was a
mix of the old and the new, with the recent material sounding fresh and real. Dewey talked about how it's been awhile since the band has toured, and how during the break his brother passed away and how that weighed heavy on him. He also said that he told the rest of the guys that it was time to get the wheels back on the band and hit the road and take this band to the level they deserve.
Personally, I LOVE this band and the new CD, and look forward to Kill Devil Hill returning to Vegas and putting on another killer show. For more info check out their website HERE.
